Quilt #4: Red, White, and Blue

A few months back, I hit upon a Craigslist fabric hoard worth the 4 hour round trip.  As I sorted the huge contractor bags, I kept the red, white, and blue (and some scraps of brown but that’s another day!).  While most of the fabric went on to support three ladies with quilt ministries, I kept enough to make a red, white and blue quilt.  I went with a disappearing nine-patch pattern for the blocks.

I bought the fabric for the sashing, border, and backing, but all of the blocks are from two generations of quilters.   Scraps of holiday fabric, old cotton shirts.  They kept everything.

I struggled with some haphazard leaves and curly-Qs until I saw a Kleenex box at bible study and felt inspired to straighten out my leaves. (Never know what you’ll learn at church, giggle!)

I used a wideback fabric of red squiggles for the back.  I really liked this as it hid a multitude of quilting “moments”.

I’m having a time stitching on my label with a machine so this is the only hand sewing on my quilt.

You can see the machine binding that drifted along the edges but I’m telling myself – it’s OK!!
